On October 17, the Brazilian Ministry of Health, in partnership with states and municipalities, held the first edition of the Circuito de Cuidado da Mulher (Women's Care Circuit), with activities in several locations across the country.
About the initiative
Held on Saturday, October 17, during Pink October, the Women's Care Circuit is an initiative of the Ministry of Health in partnership with states and municipalities. It brought together consultations, exams, contraceptive methods, vaccines, group activities such as discussion circles, and referrals within the SUS network.
According to the Secretary of Primary Health Care, Ana Luiza Caldas, the goal is to promote comprehensive care for women, identifying each woman's needs and bringing her closer to health services.
Cancer prevention and early detection
Services included clinical breast exams, investigation of signs and symptoms, mammography when indicated, Pap smear collection or DNA-HPV testing, depending on each area's strategy, and HPV vaccine updates.
Some locations received the Women's Health Trucks, offering mammography, ultrasound and colposcopy, to help reduce waiting lists in municipalities.
Sexual, reproductive and gynecological health
Women could also receive counseling on reproductive planning and contraceptive methods, focusing on the IUD and the subdermal implant, as well as prevention of sexually transmitted infections, such as rapid tests and condoms.
In gynecology, the initiative included assessment of abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain and suspected endometriosis, with follow-up in primary care and specialist referral when needed.
Menstruation, menopause and mental health
The Circuit offered assessment of menstrual cycle changes and symptoms of the menopausal transition. Through the Menstrual Dignity Program, eligible women could receive authorization to pick up free sanitary pads.
The program also included mental health support and guidance on lifestyle habits, such as diet, physical activity, blood pressure, smoking and alcohol use.
How to take part
To find out whether your city is taking part and which activities are planned, the Ministry of Health advises contacting the Municipal Health Department. Municipalities can still join the Circuit.
Guidance for health professionals
To support managers, Joint Technical Note No. 360/2026 was published with guidance on organizing the activities. The Papo de Mulher series, with three thematic booklets, a video on discussion circles and a guide for community health workers were also released and can be used throughout the year.
