ANS (Brazil's National Supplementary Health Agency) released its health plan membership report for August 2026, with the total number of enrollments and the movement of new enrollments and cancellations over the past 12 months.

August figures

On October 5, ANS released health plan membership data for August 2026. In the month, medical care plans recorded 53,164,516 members, and dental-only plans totaled 37,311,529.

The complete data, including the breakdown by type of contract and by state, are available in the Sala de Situação, a search tool on the ANS website.

Enrollments and cancellations in the month

ANS tracks member movement through the turnover rate, calculated from enrollments and cancellations in medical care plans.

In August alone, there were 1,237,646 enrollments and 1,175,486 cancellations, a turnover rate of 2.21%. Enrollments therefore outnumbered cancellations in the month.

Movement over 12 months

Over the last 12 months, medical plans had 16,117,456 enrollments and 15,434,267 cancellations, with a turnover rate of 29.41%. In this period as well, enrollments outnumbered cancellations.

What counts as an enrollment or cancellation

Enrollments include new members, portfolio transfers and voluntary plan changes, among other situations. Cancellations include, for example, the termination of group plan contracts, members leaving the sector and deaths.

How to read these figures

The figures refer to contracts, not people: since the same person may hold more than one plan, they may be counted more than once.

ANS also notes that the data may be revised retroactively, due to the monthly updates submitted by health plan operators.
